Director, Partnerships and Projects for SiG@Waterloo
Prior to entering the post-secondary field, Cheryl Rose gained professional experience in community development and volunteer management for non-profit organizations. Her passion for civic engagement and her strong belief in the power of students to work for social change, contributed to her role for many years as the Citizenship and Leadership Educator and Community Service-Learning (CSL) Specialist on the University of Guelph campus. She was the founding Executive Director of the Canadian Alliance for Community Service-Learning and for more than three years, she encouraged the development of post-secondary courses and programs across Canada which facilitate meaningful relationships between campuses and their communities, and learning through service. Recently, she has joined the Social Innovation Generation at the University of Waterloo, directing Partnerships and Programs for this new national initiative. Cheryl has published in the international journal, Capacity.org, on building campus/community partnerships and in the magazineCommunique, on citizenship education in post-secondary institutions. She has also written a monograph for the Canadian Association of University and College Student Services on leadership development through community service-learning. Her post-graduate studies in Capacity Development focused on her research project, "Civic Visions", exploring university students’ perceptions of civic commitment.
