James Tansey

Director, Centre for Sustainability and Social Innovation

Dr. James Tansey is an Associate Professor at the Sauder School of Business in Vancouver, BC and Director of the Centre for Sustainability and Social Innovation. Prior to joining UBC in 2006 he was a lecturer at the Said Business School in Oxford. James is a visiting fellow at the Smith School for Environment and Business in Oxford. James' research interests focus on the incubation of social innovation, social finance and strategic social responsibility. He has worked on climate changed adaptation research, public participation, integrated assessment and the social acceptability of new and emerging technologies. Outside the university, James has acted as an advisor to a range of companies and organizing including Oxford Analytica, Cisco Systems, World Economic Forum and Environment Canada. He also is co-founder of a number of organizations including Offsetters Clean Technology, the highest quality offset provider in Canada and Bucket of Tongues, which was The Guardian Student Magazine of the Year in 1997.
